My Father (the late Jim Wainner - of Plano, Texas) was the "designer" of The City of Plano LOGO and city flag. Back in 1978, Dad won FIRST PLACE in a contest for his original design for a LOGO for The City of Plano. The City of Plano officially adopted the LOGO my Dad designed I believe in 1980.....or 30 years ago. I just don't believe very many citizens who live in The City of Plano, Texas realize WHO actually designed this very familar LOGO. Dad passed away in 1981 at the young age of 56. The reward for winning FIRST PLACE wasn't much, but my Dad understood this and didn't do it for the money...he wanted to give back to the City of Plano. My
Dad was a very gifted Graphic Designer (who attended the "Art Center School of Design" in Los Angeles for 2 years)...considered to be one of the very best art schools in the nation. Some of Dad's classmates went on to design for DISNEY STUDIOS. Dad was also a decorated Veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII. My Dad was a tremendous influence on my wanting to become a professional Landscape Architect...so, after serving 4 years in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea...I earned my B.S. degree in Landscape Architecture @ Texas A&M University in 1977. After designing for a couple of design firms for 12 years, I established my own private landscape design practice in Plano, Texas in 1991. I'm very proud of the fact that my Dad was the designer of the very familiar CITY OF PLANO logo...it's bold, simple, patriotic...the letter font is original...it just happens to be my opinion that this LOGO design is one of the BEST designed city logos you'll find in any state!
